My Left Shoulder (not starring Daniel Day Lewis)

Nope this isn’t a story of how I’ve become an
amazing artist who can only draw with his
left shoulder…

It’s about how my sore shoulder relates to
the Automobile Association…

We’re perfectly happy to spend money joining
the AA (or any other breakdown recovery
service for that matter)…

>>> Just in case our car breaks down…

Now if you have a shiny new car then surely
this isn’t needed…

Your car is expected to run smoothly for a
good few years right…

But what about when it gets older…

You either replace it… or make sure
someone’ll be there to help when it claps
out…

^^^ temporarily stopping you in your
tracks…

Then the man in the yellow van appears out of
the mist…

Tinkers around a bit with the engine…

And sets you on your way…

No doubt you’ll get it looked at soon
after… and make sure it’s serviced and kept
as good as new for as long as possible…

So why don’t you do this with your body my
man?…

Really…

If you don’t keep it serviced then it WILL
eventually give up on you…

It might not feel like it now but think back
to your 20s…

^^^ If you were anything like me you were
invincible and gonna live for ever…

What about now?…

You still don’t feel THAT old… but you’re
not 20 any more…

And if you don’t keep your body maintained
then you’ll need the human equivalent of the
AA…

>>> or a physio… as I like to call them…

I saw one the other day cos my shoulder has
felt a bit strange for a few weeks…

Luckily there’s no problem but at least I
have piece of mind that my body (or at least
shoulder) is in full working order…

Now I’ve been stretching this shoulder A LOT
because it was causing me discomfort and I
wanted to make it ok…

The physio told me the range of motion was
good…

^^^ And that it was my right I needed to work
on…

Because I had been concentrating so much on
the bad one…

Anyhoo…

This just proves that a bit of stretching
here and there is good…

A bit of exercise is gonna make sure you keep
moving well…

It’ll keep you away from the knackers yard
for a few more years at least…

Now this is all good for a little bit of
maintenance…

But what about losing some weight…

Getting fitter…

Gaining some strength…

All so you can live an easier life…

You won’t moan on ‘long’ walks…

You won’t throw your back out when your kids
want to go on your shoulders cos they’re
knackered…

You won’t crash on the sofa with zero energy
in the evenings…

^^^ meaning straight to sleep when you go to
bed…

If you could just lose those few extra pounds
this would make ALL the difference right…
