Is It Better To Look Stronger Than You Are… Or Be Stronger Than You Look?

Strongfirst kettlebell

When I started going to they gym I was just the same as most people, your average fella who had no idea what to do

I thought you just picked up a weight and curled it… then did it a few more times

And that would get me stronger

I was confusing strength with having a good physique… trying to bulk up so I ‘looked strong’

What a silly boy

It did work though… I was as strong as I looked

Which wasn’t very…

I wanted something different but everything just looked the same to me

Then I found kettlebells after I joined my wife at a class she’d been raving about. It changed my idea of exercise but it still took me a while to grasp what had just happened

When I decided to become a trainer it didn’t take me long to realise that knowing how to use
kettlebells would be a great advantage. The carry over from these things to other aspects of training for strength and conditioning is a perfect introduction for beginners

And not that many trainers actually know how to use them effectively

So I sought out the best place to learn

I wanted something more than a certification where you spend a few hours in a room with someone who shows you a couple of moves…

Then you pass…

I wanted to be challenged… I wanted to find strength within myself that I never thought
possible…

I had heard about RKC so I found my closest instructor who told me the RKC had all changed and that StrongFirst was the way to go

He then forwarded me the link to the certification happening in the UK that November (2014)

It was now August which gave me three months to train…

I had never pressed more than a 16kg…

I could swing a 24 badly…

So the idea of snatching one was pretty daunting…

And a TGU with a 24kg… is that possible?

I downloaded a training program and got straight to work…

This program was designed to take six months… So I did it in three… (like I said I wanted a challenge)

By the time November came around I had learnt a lot about myself and I was totally prepared for the three day extravaganza… (which delivered way more than I was expecting)…

I was in a room with guys who’ve spent their lives learning and teaching strength training…

The knowledge within the StrongFirst system is vast. There are trainers from all sorts of disciplines who are happy to share their knowledge with you…

When I first saw some of the videos online I thought this was just a bunch of idiots lifting
heavy stuff in weird ways…

Until that weekend in November…

When I discovered that these folk are a lot more than that…

Those impossible lifts are a result of consistent training towards a goal…

It’s not that these strong men and women just decide they might ‘try’ a lift…

These videos are a culmination of strength training programs that ensure failure is not an
option…

When I realised this I could see that strength IS a skill and anyone can become strong… even me

At the time I was the lightest fella (64kg) to complete the snatch test with a 24kg bell. But I didn’t feel intimidated… everyone wants you to succeed

So if you’re not big in stature you have nothing to worry about… StrongFirst will get you stronger…

I went on to pass my SFG II the following May and have continued to get stronger ever since…

If you’re looking for a certification that delivers knowledge in an easy to digest way from ladies and gents who live and breathe the StrongFirst code

If you want to find out how strong you REALLY are…

Then this is the place for you

The journey only begins at this certification…

“You can be anything you want… But you must be strong first.”
