Best Pubs In Bath (Bar None)…

Ok so there’s this stigma around that people in the ‘fitness industry’ are all boring gits who eat chicken and broccoli for EVERY MEAL and continually talk about how much better they are than everyone else…

Does that about cover it?

Well… It’s not true…

Not in my case anyway…

I consider myself as more of a fitness industry spy…

I used to be where you are… on the outside trying to work out how to get the results of the
folk on the inside…

But now that I’m in here… it’s still as confusing as hell… (and a bit smelly)…

–> ENTER AT YOUR OWN PERIL

Yep… there’s plenty of peril in here… which is why I took the dive for you… I’ll bring
out what you need and leave the useless stuff behind…

To save us all a load of time…

Anyhoo…

I like beer…

Actually that’s not entirely true…

I LOVE BEER…

Love it…

So I thought I would put together a quick review of my favourite watering holes around Bath…

Places where you get a decent pint that’s been poured by the hands of someone who cares about good beer…

Not the places where you get a cocktail of crap from the drip tray and chemical ridden lagers from lines that haven’t been cleaned for a month…

If that’s what you like then you’re barred… (GET OUT)…

Still here?

Nice one… let’s go on a pub crawl…

vvv We’ll start here vvv

Pulteney Arms

Best place for sitting outside in the summer

http://www.thepulteneyarms.co.uk

This isn’t just Bath’s ‘rugby pub’… even a wee man like me feels at home in here and
Russ the landlord is a funny (ha ha) fella

The Pulteney has the mixture of a great ‘old school’ pub atmosphere coupled with a fantastic
menu that’s way beyond your average pub grub

Along with the tasty regulars Timothy Taylor Landlord & Otter Bitter there’s always a choice of
guest ales to keep you coming back for more

As well as a couple of decent lagers if that’s what you’re after (shame on you)

This is a great cosy pub in the winter with a log burner that’ll keep you nice & toasty…

In the summer you can sit outside at the front which in my view is the best place to sit and
have a pint in Bath on a sunny day… take your shades though cos this is a proper sun-trap

My wife and I regularly go for walks along the canal and make this our stop-off point on the way home…

The Star Inn

Proper Pub… go there…

http://www.abbeyales.co.uk/www.star-inn-bath.co.uk/

The Star Inn is a proper honest to goodness pub…

It’s owned by Abbey Ales so they always have a pump for Bellringer…

The other three pumps are for guest beers… some Abbey… some not… all good…

You can also get Bass straight from the barrel… like I said… PROPER PUB…

Oh and they regularly put out cheese and snacks on the bar…

Like a proper pub…

Raven

Always a different beer

http://www.theravenofbath.co.uk

The Raven is my local and I love it…

So this may be a bit biased but so what…

I go there pretty regularly and rarely have the same pint twice…

There are two regulars (Raven Ale & Raven Gold) that are brewed exclusively for the Raven… You can even get a Raven Ale pie (Pieminister) or Raven Ale Sausages (made by the nearby Bartlett & Sons butcher)… which is incidentally where I buy my meat… how interesting…

The other four pumps have continually changing guest beers that leave you spoilt for choice (so you just have to try em all)…

Tim the Landlord knows his beer and regularly holds beer festivals where you can choose from TWELVE different beers at a time…

Apparently other drinks are available but I can’t say I’ve noticed…

You’ll just have to go along and see for yourself…

Hop Pole

Great Beer Garden

https://www.bathales.com/our-pubs/pid/the-hop-pole/

This is another cozy little boozer with a huge beer garden out the back which is perfect for
summer…

If you like Bath Ales then this is the place to go to sit outside…

It’s a great place to sit and have a leisurely delicious lunch in the garden…

They used to do scotch eggs as a bar snack but the last time I went I think they had stopped
(bring em back)…

So we had to settle for black pudding croquettes… it’s a hard life innit…

White Hart Inn

Great Sunday Lunch

http://www.whitehartbath.co.uk

I love the beer garden… it’s a proper garden…

We often stop here after a quick jaunt around the skyline and a nice pint of Butcombe Blonde is always refreshing…

The Sunday lunch here is indulgent and worth it… don’t make any plans for afterwards though…

Unless you fancy a walk to the Pulteney Arms which is just up the road… so you can start round two?

Another couple of great beer gardens to mention are the Marlborough Tavern & Graze…

Both get the sun for most of the day and serve decent beer…

Watch the balloons take off in the evening sun from the garden of the Marlborough… you can also give a smug look to the folk on the tourist bus as they go past and stare longingly at your pint…

While at Graze you can pretend to be a trainspotter… so you have an excuse for a cheeky one… but don’t forget your notebook and pen on a string…

There you have it… should keep you going for a while…

And this is why you’ll never see me posting pictures of my food or my 6 pack (which I don’t have) on Facebook…

Unless it’s a 6 pack of beer and a pack of mini cheddars…

Oh and if I see you in any of these places…

Mine’s a pint 🙂

Drink responsibly…

As in… drink nice beer…
